SUMMARY The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice for children from birth through adolescence. The incumbent functions as a member of an Emergency Department physician team within an integrated academic model, with the potential for a clinical academic position. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Assess, evaluate, diagnose and initially treat pediatric patients who present in the ED with any symptom, illness, injury or condition and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries; stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and to assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary. Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations. Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary. Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model. Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy. Participate in peer review, development and consultation. Participate in special programs and services as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families. Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Childrenxe2x80x99s STANDARDS. Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No direct reports but oversees Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs). EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Education Required: MD, MD/PhD, DO degree or equivalent with attainment of Pediatric Emergency Medicine board eligibility/certification. Experience Required: Previous pediatric emergency department experience required. LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Current Federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration Current State of Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration
