White Plains Hospital Job Description Title: Physician xe2x80x93 Emergency Dept. Job Code: 200230 Department/Location: Department of Emergency Medicine FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Director, Emergency Dept Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Medicine, provides medical care to patients in the Emergency Department. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Evaluates and treats patients presenting themselves for care in the Emergency Department. Provides medical control to paramedics and ambulance personnel. Consults with private physicians concerning their patients in the Emergency Department and advises them concerning the need for admission of their patients to the hospital. Make appropriate referrals to attending physicians Institutes immediate intervention in life or disability-threatening emergencies. Is responsible for the safety of patients in the department in the absence of their private physician. Documents evaluation of and treatment given to all patients in the Emergency Department medical record. Provides each patient with discharge instructions, both oral and written. In the absence of the Director of the Department, the E.D. physician on duty is responsible for the operation of the department and provides medical direction to all staff. Works assigned shifts and does not leave the department at any time unless relieved by another E.D. physician. Participates in local and regional EMS activities and educational programs. Education & Experience Requirements Current New York State License to practice medicine Completion of at least three years of post-graduate training in an appropriate primary care specialty Current ACLS Certification. Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills listed in the delineation of privileges for Emergency Department Physicians. Minimum of 50 hours of approved CME annually. Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time Must position self to examine patients lying on a bed or seated, reach for equipment which is positioned in high or low places in the room, respond to emergent situations requiring the performance of various procedures on patients May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospitalxe2x80x99s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospitalxe2x80x99s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
